“I used to pray that God would feed the hungry, or do this or that, but now I pray that he will guide me to do whatever I’m supposed to do, what I can do. I used to pray for answers, but now I’m praying for strength. I used to believe that prayer changes things, but now I know that prayer changes us and we change things.”  – St. Teresa Avila

More than any other age group, eligible seniors are not enrolled in the Federal benefits programs like the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP).  Many seniors face increased health issues, limited earning potential, or tight fixed income budgets, heightened nutritional needs and limited mobility.  According to www.feedingamerica.org, 38,445 of an estimated 71,956 just (53.4%) of eligible people in Connecticut aged 60 or older were enrolled in SNAP.

Did you know that 22% of Ledyard’s school age children are eligible for the free or reduced price breakfasts and lunches offered at school?  Yet, unlike Montville, Norwich, Groton and New London, Ledyard doesn’t have a summer meal program.  Please pray about it.

Together with God’s help we can end hunger in Ledyard.
