Description of position:

We are an open and affirming United Church of Christ (UCC) church seeking a Faith Formation Sunday School Coordinator familiar with and consistent with our values. Our Sunday school is led by a group of creative, talented, and devoted volunteer congregants. As participation in our Sunday School is growing, we seek someone to facilitate both in-reach and out-reach of our program and to guide us on our journey. Creativity and expertise are welcome.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Children’s Ministry:
    • Coordinate Sunday School and Nursery Room volunteers.
    • Learn what our families want and need.
    • Oversee the nursery and support teacher-planned lessons, and fill in on Sundays as necessary.
    • Link educational opportunities through UCC to our teachers and families.
    • Inform Pastor and Deacons about parents’ interest in baptisms, confirmation, communion workshops, and similar events.
    • Participate in Faith Formation monthly meetings.
    • Coordinate weekly e-mail and monthly newsletter communication contributions.
    • Ensure that safe church policies are being followed.
    • Coordinate with volunteers on yearly events to include:
      • Homecoming Day
      • Blessing of the Animals
      • Christmas Pageant
      • Children’s Day
  • Community Involvement:
    • Use social media skills to build community connections.
    • Reach out to neighboring church groups to extend youth and family program opportunities. 
    • Attend community events, e.g., Ledyard Back to School, Trunk or Treat, Rotary Epic Day of Service, etc.; further family participation in mission-sponsored activities.
    • Connect LCC with UCC opportunities for youth, families, and teachers. 
  • Summer Responsibilities
    • Open communication with parents to understand their hopes and needs for the coming year.
    • Prepare for the Fall start of Sunday School.
    • Continue to establish social media presence in the community and coordinate volunteers to attend community events
    • Plan cooperative and collaborative multi-age activities for each Sunday School.
    • Coordinate children’s message with the pastor each week 

General Responsibilities

  • Manage supplies, adhering to the budget.
  • Collect and maintain yearly Sunday School registration forms.
  • Follow up with Sunday School visiting families. 
  • Attend 2 Continuing Education/Development UCC groups/workshops/year.

Additional Information

  • Safe Church compliance, background check is required
  • Approximately 20 hours per week. The position pays $20/hour.
  • Two weeks paid annual vacation (not to exceed 2 Sundays)
